Explorer, Coach, Grandpa, Tango dancer

Hi! I'm Nat Couropmitree (Ca-ROPE-ma-tree).

My
surname was given to my family by the abbot of a Thai Buddhist temple
when my dad’s family immigrated to Thailand. It’s a fusion of two
Sanskrit words: ‘Courop’ which translates to respect and ‘Mitree’ which
translates to unity, friendship, or loving-kindness.

I’ve
been a spiritual explorer, looking to find meaning and understand life.
I like noticing what is often overlooked. I like seeing different
perspectives.

Throughout
my life, whether it was studying anthropology, working for 15 years as a
life coach, or talking to people I meet while traveling, I’ve always
been interested in people’s stories, how their experiences shaped their
behaviors and sense of identity, and how they see the world.

When
I travel, I get curious about the possibilities available to me when I
see behaviors different from my own. For example, I wonder why road rage
is not as common in Thailand as it is in the United States even though
driving is more erratic than here. Or at one point in Madeira Portugal,
why was I already stressing and expecting a judgmental ‘no’ response
when I asked to use a random restaurant’s restroom and it turned out to
be no big deal? Being in new environments and learning about people
helps me get to know myself better.

I also travel to enjoy the richness of life –

  • Enjoying diverse cuisines and sweets… Did you know each region in Portugal has its own type of dessert?
  • Connecting
to people who may look different and live in distant lands yet are
eerily similar possessing shared struggles and dreams…
  • Connecting
to the people before our time through their creations, architecture,
and art… and wondering what their lives were like, and
  • Connecting to nature and its beauty.

For
me, travel and life are not about checking stuff off a list and saying I
did that. (Although, there was a time when this was true.) It’s about
having the experience; taking in the sounds, smells, textures, and
sights; feeling all the feels; being fully present with it all; and,
noticing what emerges and unfolds. Years later I may not always remember
the exact details of what happened but I’ll have touchpoints and
remember how it made me feel.

  • Sometimes people come to work with me because they prefer something other than traditional therapy. Sometimes they’ve already tried different spiritual approaches but have found that their tendency to overthink things clouds their ability to benefit.

  • Other times, people come to work with me when they find themselves in a personal circumstance (divorce, illness, job loss) that, no matter how
much they’ve tried to figure it out, they just can’t find their way.

  • And, some people work with me when they’ve come to the realization that they’ve been living as someone other than who they really are. This could be someone who consistently puts others’ needs and desires ahead of their own, or who finds themselves acting and behaving to suit the unreasonable expectations of others (or themselves)

What can you expect when coaching with Nat

Witness

Together, we’ll make room for old patterns to be illuminated and witnessed. For what wants to be said and let go. For noticing the assumptions and rules you may be holding about yourself and what’s even possible. Once you see these things, you may then choose something different. Something you’d prefer.

Compassion

I have a deep respect for beauty, diversity, culture, and the full range of experiences that we have as humans. Together, we can notice what is arising for you in each moment and share a common curiosity about your inner world and the world around you.

Time to Explore on Your Own

I’ll invite you to pay attention to what arises between our sessions because you can use it all to your benefit (and the benefit of others). I may also give you a question to contemplate or a practice to try on your own.

Interested?

There are a variety of ways we can work together, from a single Resistance Release session to longer-term engagements. Prices begin at $200 per session.

No matter the road that’s brought you here or the specifics of your situation, every Inquisitive Journey begins at a common meeting point: a conversation. This is a chance for us to talk a bit about what’s going on and to see how we might best work together.
